ACPD Joins Holiday Traffic Enforcement Campaign

Beginning December 26 and extending through January 2, 2024, the Arkansas City Police Department will participate in the New Year's Taking Down DUI traffic enforcement campaign. This collaborative effort includes various law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, united in a mission to ensure safer roadways during the holiday season.

The New Year's holiday period consistently witnesses a surge in traffic-related incidents, with a notable increase in crashes involving at least one impaired driver influenced by alcohol and other drugs.

Recognizing the gravity of this issue, the Arkansas City Police Department is committed to proactive measures to curb DUI-related incidents and protect the community.

"A DUI can stay with you for life, and you WILL get caught – we hope that is a sobering thought – and DUIs are 100% preventable," ACPD Chief Eric Burr said. "Keep in mind that if you are going to be using any impairing substance – don't even consider driving. Line up a ride with a sober acquaintance or other safe transportation before you go out. Make the right choice, the sober choice; do it now."
